I’m still paying my State Bar dues (as inactive) so I won’t have to take the bar exam again on the off chance I might ever need to practice law. And it would only be a case of need. I never loved practicing law. I was good at it but never passionate about it.

It’s wonderful that you realized that in time to launch a second career. It’s also wise to have the safety net of the State Bar. My back up career is art, which isn’t as lucrative as law, but I love it almost as much as writing.
Sarah, it was a pregnancy hiatus (well, two pregnancies) that gave me the distance to get out of law before spending a lifetime doing it. You must be creative through and through with all your writing and painting!
