For the last year, I’ve had a subscription to The Paris Review–mainly for the interviews–Lydia Davis, Elena Ferrante, Jane Smiley. I wish I could call up literary traditions the way they can–what Dickens contributed, for example, or the way marriage has been treated in novels over the years. I didn’t ever really study literature.

No need to worry. I think I’ve learned more from reading books on my own than from the literature classes I took at school/college.
But nothing seems to stick. I think I want to devote some time to this–next project forming. Good to hear from you, Sarah.
I follow the Paris Review on Facebook and love what I read. I’m sure I don’t get to see all the articles that way, but I love what I do see. I will probably eventually get a subscription. Brain Pickings is another page I follow that is rich with interesting and accessible literary articles.
Thanks, CJ. I’ll check them out on FB. And I agree about Brain Pickings. Nice to hear from you again.
And maybe I should spend a little time reading your posts–that might help. Jane Smiley was talking about Anthony Trollope and there he is in your most recent post!
