For the first few years of this blog, I disabled the follow-by-email feature. I didn’t want anyone to receive a copy of what I first posted. I almost always changed it–sometimes more than once.

I still change posts after they’re posted, but never so radically that I would be terribly embarrassed by the circulation of the original version in copy. Besides, some people want to follow without joining WordPress. (Imagine! Readers with nothing of their own they care to blog about!) How else would they do that, without email? I should think it would be much worse to write a printed newspaper column; once off the presses, you can never correct what you’ve written, except perhaps when all your columns are collected in a book. At some point you have to let go…and let what will be, be.
Nina, I agree completely and am glad those days of holding so tightly to my words are in the past. It’s nice to hear your voice over here : )
