More reading today and more peacefulness. More from Rebecca Solnit.

I talked about places, about the ways that we often talk about love of place, by which we mean our love for places, bur seldom of how the places love us back, of what they give us… And distant places give us refuge in territories where our own histories aren’t so deeply entrenched and we can imagine other stories, other selves, or just drink up quiet and respite.

What Provincetown gives me: surround-sound outdoors, vistas, tides, a life by the sea, oysters and lobster, an artistic community, life without the need for a car, without distances really or obligations or judgment, the New England I’ve wanted since I was thirteen, time and space, solitude, and quiet and respite.
