I had not heard about the two little sisters--what fun. Reading this, I can tell you are clearly an animal person, and I just never really wanted to take care of anything else. But can't resist the ones in the wild who drop by--foxes and deer and hawks. I am mesmerized.

I'm not a dog person, either, but I like seeing other people with their dogs and I occasionally pet a particularly cute one. But dogs seem unpredictable generally, they're a lot of work, very needy. And they smell. I am very much a cat person, though. I've always had a cat and despite having developed an allergy to them I still must live with them because that's partly how I understand my life, through a feline. After we lost Maria, I found a breed that most people with allergies don't have trouble with--Siberians--and Pat and bought two little sister kittens. I've always had shelter cats before but I can't say enough good things about this breed. Gentle, very social, smart, cuddly--everything you want in a feline companion. Plus when I bury my nose in their fur I smell maple syrup and fresh-cut wood. Mmmm.

Cynthia, you didn't lose me because I'm not a "pet" person. I love animals and I love watching them, but not in a way that I want/need to own any. I absolutely adore all the cubs, kittens, pups and any baby version of an animal, because they're small, sweet, cute and don't smell. That's the only time I don't mind the licking and little barks and meows---but they grow and get older, just like we do. I just don't want/need the fur (I became allergic to cats, too), the barking, the perpetual care (it's like having a perpetual infant which also equals less freedom) and definitely can't handle the expense. The only time I can imagine myself with a pet is if I was old and alone with much less to do and a bigger pocketbook, and even then, it would have to be a very small dog with hair, not fur. Not everyone is meant to own animals.

Love the pic of you and Lance (Lassie!) :D
