A powerful book. It takes on rural themes, nature/life/death. A wonderful, emotional read.

Hey, there, Dave. A nicely captured day, indeed. This comes at just the right time. My daughter and son-in-law are coming in tonight, and this will be the SIL’s first time here. We’re hoping he “gets” the Ozarks and these scruffy foothills and declares, “I’m packing as soon as I get home.” Seeing them through your eyes will be a big help (I still end up in Oklahoma whenever I head out exploring).

My husband grew up in rural Michigan. I’ll have to look up the book and the Collective for him. He misses home, and he misses his old friends from SMU. We’ll be coming up for commencement this year so he can hang with those old friends and we can see the other side of these mountains.

I love this blog. It’s always such a peaceful place to rest and enjoy.

In reply to davemalone. Shirley, Dave just said the magic word: voice. I think it's crucial to find a writing partner who points out strengths and weaknesses without injecting his or her voice into your prose. But I'm sure you know that as you're well on your way to finishing your own memoir.
