When Catherine, born in 1962, says “I do” in 1985, she begins a fall from equality that lands her in bed with her husband but without the power to negotiate the time she turns out the light on her bedside table. By agreeing to stay home with the children and then enclosing herself in a bubble, Catherine’s marriage sinks to the husband-and-wife roles familiar to her from childhood. Her only connection to the world becomes the weather and the news supplied by the dreaded TV. Ultimately she must drive away from her life in order to find it.
Between Here and Gone is finished, and I will be sending it to agents in the near future.
